The North South MRT Line was the first Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line in Singapore. The line is currently 44 km long with 25 stations, and is operated by SMRT Corporation. Traveling from one end of this line to the other end takes around 61 minutes, and this line is coloured red on the rail map.
As the name implies, the line connects central Singapore to both northern and southern parts of the island. Cross-platform transfer to the East West Line is provided at Jurong East, City Hall and Raffles Place stations while transfer to the North East Line is possible via a linkway at Dhoby Ghaut station.

Three batches of rolling stock are in service on the line, i.e. the Kawasaki Heavy Industries C151 cars, the Siemens C651 cars and the Kawasaki Heavy Industries & Nippon Sharyo C751B cars. These trains operate from the Bishan depot between Ang Mo Kio station and Bishan Station on the North South Line. The Bishan Depot has maintenance and train overhaul facilities for trains along the North South Line.
