The North South Divided was a late night radio talk show broadcast on nearly 30 Local Radio Company stations, from Sun FM in Sunderland, to Isle of Wight Radio on the Isle of Wight.
It pitches the North against the South and is co-presented by Mike 'The Mouth' Elliott representing the north and Carol McGiffin representing the south.
On 1st February 2006 Alex Dyke, the old southern presenter, stormed out of the studio after complaining about being paid £2 a night less than Mike Elliott (the extra being to cover the cost of travelling through the Tyne Tunnel). Alex considered this to be a violation of a gentleman's agreement between himself and Mike to have the exact same contract and pay. Temporary stand-ins filled in for Dyke until February 13, 2006 when Carol McGiffin became the permanent new southern presenter.
In early 2006 the North South Divided Forums were created where people can chat about the North South Divided 24/7/365
Many posters on media forum sites have reported that 5 July 2006 was the last night of the show. It is believed in the short-term a music-led programme will take over the slot while decisions on any replacement show(s) are made.
