North Shore Connector

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The North Shore Connector project is a tunnel that is being dug under the Allegheny River in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The original budget was $393 million and later increased to $435 million. 80% of the funding will come from the U.S. federal government.[1] The project is scheduled to be completed by 2011.[2]

[edit] Project Overview

The new North Shore Connector will allow residents in the city to take the public transportation system from the Gateway Center Station in downtown, under the Allegheny River to the new North Side Station and Allegheny Station. The project also allows the possibility for future expansion with a subway line to Pittsburgh International Airport.
