For the majority of existence it was a single division competition and sits at level 13 of the English football league system, feeding to the Hampshire League. In turn, it was fed by the Andover and District League, the Winchester and District League, and the Basingstoke League.

The league operated from the late Sixties until 2004. The league had two divisions until the Eighties and consisted the Reserve sides of many Hampshire League clubs. Sadly the league lost many of these teams when the league formed a Combination Division for Reserve sides.
