North Eastern Province is the third largest province in Kenya and has thirteen consitutencies represented in the Kenya National assembly, The parliament.
The Province is home to World's rare antelope, called the [[Image:Hirola, http://bp2.blogger.com/_jWJOCio02kQ/R-i7VnqeO_I/AAAAAAAAAls/- which is classified as an Endangered species as well as over one million livestock population.
The climate of North Eastern Province of Kenya is semi-arid and hot. Rain falls rarely, usually only around April or October, and is extremely erratic from year to year. Combined with hot temperatures and extreme evaporation, this makes the region best suited to nomadic pastoralism based around the Arabian camel which is exceptionally adapted at surviving such a hot, dry climate, and also the donkey, which has been prevented by diseases from spreading southward into more humid climates.
Apart from the Tana in the south, there are no rivers of any significance, though there are a few tributaries of the Jubba River near the Somali border which very rarely have any water in them. Consequently, there is little or no possibility of irrigation-based development, and pastoralists rely exclusively on wells to water their stock and for domestic use.
60- 70% of all the Livestock from Kenya comes from North Eastern Province and is sometimes exported to Middle East and other Asian countries.
The biggest airport in the area is the Wajir Airport.
