The Northern Saints Football Club, formerly known as St. Oliver’s Football Club (and before that the Blessed Oliver Plunkett Football Club or BOPs) was established in association with St. Oliver’s Primary School in 1947. The club has provided the youth of this working class area with the opportunity to play Australian rules footy for 60 years.

The colours of the club were green with a red yoke, these were the traditional colours associated with the Catholic Primary School. For many years, the club fielded only junior teams, until deciding to form an open age team in 1978.

Originally all teams played home games at Hallam Reserve, Pascoe Vale. In 1985 the club decided to relocate to Hosken Reserve, North Coburg.

In the early 90s, the club changed its name to North Coburg Saints Football Club to better reflect the area they represented. In 1998 the colours were also changed to purple, red, green & white (of AFL club Fremantle Dockers). The guernsey was changed back in 2006 to the traditional unique red and green jumpers which have been worn proudly by players for over 50 years.

The club continues to field teams in all age groups from U10’s through to Senior Open Age. In October 2007, the club voted to merge with struggling DVFL club, Fawkner Park. The new entity, to be known as the Northern Saints, will play at Mutton Reseve, Fawkner but remain in the Essendon District Football League and continue to wear the traditional North Coburg guernsey.
