[edit] History

After meetings held in late 1976, a club was formed in Coffs Harbour, playing a few scratch matches in 1977, then joining the New England AFL for the 1978 season. In 1980, they fielded two teams, named "Souths" (wearing South Melbourne colours) and "Norths" (wearing North Melbourne colours). North Coffs defeated Armidale City for the 1980 New England AFL premiership, then North Coffs and South Coffs met in the 1981 grand final.

1982 saw the formation of the league, with six clubs - South Coffs, North Coffs, Port Macquarie, Grafton, Urunga and Woolgoolga.
