North China University of Technology (北方工业大学) is a university in ShiJingShan District, Western Beijing, China.
There are roughly 10,000 undergraduates and 3,000 graduate students studying there.
Situated at the foot of the picturesque Western Hills of Beijing and at the intersection of Western Fifth-Ring Road and Fushi Road, North China of Technology (NCUT) is a multi-disciplinary university that combines natural sciences and engineering with liberal arts, economics, management and law, giving priority engineering. Growing out of the former state-run peking Advanced Vocational School of Technology founded in1946, it has undergone dramatic changes ever since. In 1978, with the approval of the State Council, NCUT began to offer overall undergrad programs, and in1985, it was renamed the present North China University of Technology (NCUT). Since then, it had functioned under the administration of the former China National Non-ferrous Metals Industry Corporation before it became in September 1998 a higher learning institution recruiting students from all parts of the country, a university jointly administered by the Central Government and the Beijing Municipal Government with the latter as higher learning institution recruiting students from all parts of the country, a university jointly administered by the Central Government and the Beijing Municipal Government with the latter as its principal governing body. Situated in Beijing, NCUT caters to the needs of the whole country and non-ferrous metal industry, laying stress on the servicing the economic and social development of the capital.
NCUT is a multi-disciplinary university based mainly on undergraduate education. It targets the cultivation of qualified high-level application-oriented professionals with solid basic theoretical knowledge and strong practical and creative abilities. NCUT always places teaching at the center of its activities, takes the quality of education as its lifeline and strives for educates to develop morally, intellectually, physically and aesthetically in an all- round way.
At present, NCUT has 25 undergraduate programs, 22 Master’s programs, 3 second-bachelor’s-degree programs, with an enrollment of over 11,000 full time students, including over10, 000 full time undergraduate students, and about1, 600 graduate students and second degree students, as well as 4,000 undergraduate and subject-field training students studying at the college of Adult Education, and 50 foreign students. NCUT has 9 colleges with 30 teaching departments, 12 teaching and experiment centers, and 9 research and design institutes. NCUT has 540 teaching staff, of whom Master’s and doctoral degree holders account for 71% and the senior academia title holders 48%.
NCUT has put into practice a flexible learning system and credit management system to cater to the needs of students’ self-determined study and all-round development. Thus the university implements management of students’ registration by curricula, allowing them to minor in any undergraduate subjects they want and to complete their leaning at different stages and choose to graduate within 3 to 8 years. The NCUT’s students have obtained remarkable results in various national examinations and great achievement in a variety of national contests. Since 1988, over 500 persons/times have won the first-, second- and third-class prizes in all the national and municipal contests of competence and quizzes.
Adhering to the principle of promoting development by means of reform and striving hard in the pioneering and enterprising spirit to make greater progress so as to acclimatize itself to the new situation of the higher education reform and to the needs of social and economic development of the country, CUT has seen a salutatory development in improving its schooling conditions and standard, and enlarging its schooling scale, thus having won a good reputation sand had a favorable social influence.
