North Carolina Highway 73

North Carolina Highway 73 is a state highway in the U.S. state of North Carolina. For most of its route, it is a two-lane highway that combines both rural scenery and the utility of serving several small and moderate-sized cities in the state.

[edit] Beginnings - Lincoln County

North Carolina Highway 73 begins in Lincoln County, where it forks off from NC-27 and heads east.

[edit] Mecklenburg County

The highway crosses into Mecklenburg County, where it crosses the Catawba River just below the Cowans Ford Dam at Lake Norman. The highway then crosses Interstate 77 at the NorthCross development, before passing through the northern part of the town of Huntersville.

[edit] Cabarrus County

Passing into Cabarrus County, the highway crosses the Rocky River, then through the center of the Odell School community, then around the southern end of the Coddle Creek reservoir. The highway then intersects with the newly-constructed Kannapolis Parkway and Interstate 85 as it enters the city of Concord. Leaving Concord and going east, the Highway passes through the town of Mount Pleasant before leaving the county.

Entering Stanly County, Highway 73 goes through the crossroads community of Finger and then through the county seat of Albemarle on a 4-lane bypass around the southern part of the city. Leaving the bypass at Albemarle Plaza Mall, the highway crosses the Yadkin River just north of Lake Tillery as it travels through the Uwharrie Mountains.

The highway then enters rural Montgomery County, passing through the county seat of Troy and the town of Biscoe before passing into Moore County where it ends at the intersection of U.S. 15-501 at Eastwood, just south of the county seat of Carthage.
