North Carolina's congressional districts

North Carolina currently has 13 congressional districts for the purpose of electing members of the United States House of Representatives. The state gained an additional district in 2002 as a result of regular reapportionment following the 2000 census.

The 1st district is currently held by Democrat G.K. Butterfield. Butterfield first won the seat in a special election on 20 July 2004 to replace Frank Ballance, who had resigned. Butterfield was re-elected to a full term in November 2004 and re-elected without opposition in 2006.

The 2nd district seat is currently held by Bob Etheridge, a Democrat.

The 3rd district seat is currently held by Walter B. Jones, a Republican.

The 4th district seat is currently held by David Price, a Democrat.

The 5th district seat is currently held by Virginia Foxx, a Republican first elected in November 2004. The seat was formerly held by current U.S. Senator Richard Burr, also a Republican.

The 6th district seat is currently held by Howard Coble, a Republican.

The 7th district seat is currently held by Mike McIntyre, a Democrat.

The 8th district seat is currently held by Robin Hayes, a Republican.

The 9th district seat is currently held by Sue Wilkins Myrick, a Republican.

The 10th district is currently held by Patrick McHenry, a Republican first elected in November 2004. He succeeded Cass Ballenger, also a Republican, who retired. The Tenth District has been represented by a Republican since 1969, and is arguably the most Republican district in the state.

The 11th district seat is currently held by Heath Shuler, a Democrat. He unseated 8-term incumbent Republican Charles H. Taylor in the 2006 midterm elections.

The 12th district seat is currently held by Melvin L. Watt, a Democrat.

The 13th district seat is currently held by Brad Miller, a Democrat.
