North Babylon is a hamlet (and census-designated place) in Suffolk County, New York, United States. The population was 17,877 at the 2000 census.

North Babylon is located at 40°43′50″N, 73°19′17″W (40.730598, -73.321387)[1].

According to the United States Census Bureau, the hamlet has a total area of 3.4 square miles (8.9 km²), of which, 3.4 square miles (8.7 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (1.46%) is water.

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 17,877 people, 6,146 households, and 4,707 families residing in the hamlet. The population density was 5,309.8 per square mile (2,048.2/km²). There were 6,271 housing units at an average density of 1,862.6/sq mi (718.5/km²). The racial makeup of the hamlet was 92.05% White, 2.08% African American, 0.17% Native American, 2.09% Asian, 0.03% Pacific Islander, 1.95% from other races, and 1.63% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 7.34% of the population.

There were 6,146 households out of which 33.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.3% were married couples living together, 10.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.4% were non-families. 18.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.3% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.90 and the average family size was 3.30.

In the hamlet the population was spread out with 23.5% under the age of 18, 6.8% from 18 to 24, 33.2% from 25 to 44, 22.3% from 45 to 64, and 14.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 92.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 89.9 males.

The median income for a household in the hamlet was $64,128, and the median income for a family was $69,714. Males had a median income of $45,651 versus $33,419 for females. The per capita income for the hamlet was $24,181. About 2.5% of families and 3.2% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.0% of those under age 18 and 4.1% of those age 65 or over.
