North Avenue MRT Station, also called North for short, is a station on the Manila MRT Blue Line (MRT-3). North Avenue is one of the many elevated stations that can be found on the line. The station is located in Diliman in Quezon City and is named after its location, which is at the corner of Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) and North Avenue.

North Avenue station is the northern terminus of MRT-3 and as such is the first station for trains headed for Taft Avenue and the last station for trains headed from Taft Avenue.

The station is near one of the Philippines' premier shopping malls, SM City North EDSA, which opened in 1985. The North Avenue Depot, an underground depot where the MRT's trains are kept and maintained, is also near the station.

The elevated tracks terminate abruptly beyond the station, but there is sufficient room for a terminating train to leave the station and stop before switching to the other track then entering the station again to begin the journey south.

An overpass to TriNoma was opened July 2007.

[edit] Transportation links

North Avenue station is a major hub for buses plying the EDSA route. A bus terminal is located near the station. Taxis and jeepneys also stop in and around the bus terminal and the station.

A northern extension of LRT-1 is proposed. When completed, the station would be connected through a transfer point to the North Avenue LRT Station.

[edit] Incidents

An unidentified man was killed November 7, 2007 after leaping off the station. The man purchased a single-journey train ticket. But instead of proceeding to board one of the coaches, the man jumped to his death. The man died upon arrival at the East Avenue Medical Center after his lower jaw was crushed upon impact. [1]
