North-East is one of the districts of Botswana. Its capital is Francistown. In 2001, North-East had a population of 132,422 people. The north east is predominatly occupied by Kalanga speaking people. The area have been under brutal leadership and control of bangwato tribe who are one of the principal tribes of Botswana. Their leader Tshekedi Khama used to terorrise them and that led to self imposed exile of John Nswazi to Zimbabwe
In the north and east, North-East borders the Matabeleland South Province of Zimbabwe. In the south and west, North-East borders Central District.
