Normanhurst School is a private independent school in North Chingford in the London Borough of Waltham Forest. The school was founded by Miss Rudge and Miss Rawson in 1923. Since 2003 the headteacher is Helen Kacouris. In 1996, Normanhurst came under the ownership of Nicholas Hagger, a renowned author and lecturer, to form part of his family's Oak-Tree Schools Group. There are just over 200 pupils of boys and girls, aged between 2 and 16. Class sizes are usually little more than a dozen pupils.
[edit] Mottoes
Normanhurst's motto is Today's Child is Tomorrow's Future. However, the traditional motto - The Child is the Father of the Man - is in the school song and still written in Latin on the school crest and uniforms. Many older pupils prefer the old motto as it is the one they have grown up with, along with a liking for the school song, which is sung less than in previous years when the school would learn it off by heart.
[edit] School Charity Committee
The Charity Committee is the official association given the responsibility of the school, to organise the charitable events and to raise money for good and benevolent causes. The main charity, which the school sponsors, is decided by the vote of members of the committee. This year the school decided to support the charity of the Mayor of Waltham Forest's,Cllr Liaquat Ali's charity appeal.
