Norman Tailyour

General Sir Norman Tailyour, K.C.B., D.S.O. was an officer in the Royal Marines. As Lieutenant-Colonel, he was the commanding officer of 45 Commando RM, flown off HMS Theseus by helicopter to land at the Port Said during the Suez Crisis in 1956. From 1965 to 1968 he was Commandant General Royal Marines, and from 1972 to 1980 Captain of Deal Castle. His son Ewen Southby-Tailyour was also a Royal Marines officer, who served with distinction in Dhofar and the Falklands War
