Norkring is a Norwegian company owned by Telenor that is responsible for the terrestrial broadcast of radio and television channels in Norway. The company operates 6,500 antennas and 47 main stations. The company will be phased out when Norges Televisjon starts building a digital terrestrial network, to be completed by December 2008.

[edit] History

The company was established in 1996 when the distribution section of the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation (NRK) was transferred to a separate company, to be owned by Televerket, later Telenor (40%) and NRK (60%). In 1999 Telenor bought the remaining of the company, with NRK concentrating on the content production.
