Noriko Narazaki (楢崎教子 Narazaki Noriko?, born on September 27, 1972 in Yamato, Kanagawa, Japan) is a retired Japanese judoka.

[edit] Biography

Narazaki was born Noriko Sugawara (菅原教子?) in Kanagawa Prefecture, but spent her childhood in Senmaya, Iwate; her mother's hometown. She began judo under the instruction of her father at 4 years of age, and entered the University of Tsukuba, where she won a bronze medal at the 1996 Summer Olympics. 8 months later, she married Kenji Narazaki, a fellow student at the University who was one year her senior to become Noriko Narazaki. She began to pursue graduate studies at the University of Tsukuba shortly after her marriage.

Narazaki returned to competitive judo in 1999, winning a gold medal at the 1999 World Judo Championships. In 2000, she became the first married Japanese judoka to compete in the Olympics, finishing with a silver medal. She retired after the 2000 Summer Olympics and began teaching at Bunkyo University in April, 2001.
