[edit] Background
[edit] Early life
Nordine Zouareg was born in Algeria to Bedouin parents in the back of a French army truck which was part of a convoy taking Bedouins to vote on Algerian Independence. Since his birth, Nordine was a sickly infant with a birth weigh of a mere two pounds and constantly fell ill. His parents were young at the time of his birth and had to abide to the decision of village elders at a “wisdom meeting”- to abandon their child at a cemetery. His mother Yamina did take Nordine to the cemetery, but could not leave him there as he started wailing as soon as she placed him on the ground.
[edit] Near Death Experience
A few months later, Nordine was taken to M’Sila, a town in comparison to El Houamed to seek treatment. The day after he was admitted into the hospital, his health was in a very critical condition which led the doctors to believe that he wouldn’t survive. They inadvertently informed his parents that the baby had died. In order to seek advanced medical care for their newborn, Nordine’s parents took him to France where he was diagnosed with rickets. Nordine’s parents settled in France where he spent a major of part of his childhood in the suburbs of Paris with the 13 siblings that followed him.
[edit] Turning Point
Poor health eclipsed a major part of Nordine’s childhood, that resulted in a weak constitution because of which he was always an easy target for the school bullies. One day after having his lunch stolen for the nth time, Nordine returned home to find his family watching a gymnastics competition. Nordine was immediately taken by the agility, professionalism and skills of the gymnast and decided that it was time to take a new route.
[edit] Metamorphosis
After taking the decision to take control of his life, Nordine stumbled upon a tool that would change his life forever and make him unstoppable: the power of visualization.
His teenage years were focused towards becoming a gymnast, a minor feat in comparison to the mammoth awards and accolades he achieved in quick succession shortly afterwards. During his struggle to become a successful gymnast, Nordine broke his wrists and stumbled once again- this time into the world of professional body building. He realized that as his physical presence improved his resolve to become a body builder strengthened. Nordine adhered to a regular gym routine and diet plan that, stemmed from a fanaticism to find happiness through bodybuilding and did bear fruit. In 1985 Nordine Zouareg won his first title of Mr.France.
[edit] Awards and Accolades
After winning his first title there was no looking back for Nordine Zouareg. As a member of World Amateur Bodybuilding Association (WABBA), In 1986 Nordine added the titles of Mr. Europe, Mr. Olympia and Mr. Universe in quick succession. A fact to note at this point is that when he won his first World Championship and the Mr. Universe in 1986, Nordine was only 22 years of age, the youngest Mr. Universe after Arnold Schwarzenegger.
In 1990 Nordine turned pro and joined the International Federation of Bodybuilding (IFBB). This was followed by winning the second position at the Italian Grand Prix in Rimini in 1991 and the 15th place at the Night of Champions in New York in 1991. In 1992 Nordine Zouareg discovered the concept of wellness and life coaching, which he decided to pursue at his lifelong mission.
[edit] The Mind Over Body Philosophy
While spreading the awareness of the mind over body philosophy, Nordine decided to move to the United States to bring his teachings to the country. In 1995, the US Government awarded the status of "Alien of Extraordinary Ability" , a position only awarded to individuals with significant achievements in their field of specialization, to Nordine so that he could reside and work in the USA. Nordine moved to Albuquerque , New Mexico where he met Dr. Dharam Singh Khalsa the President and Director of the Alzheimer’s Prevention Foundation. Dr. Khalsa was completely taken by Nordine and made him his personal coach. In 1998 Dr. Khalsa asked Nordine to become the Fitness Director of Khalsa International in Tucson, Arizona. While working there, Joseph DeNucci the General manager of Miraval Resort, the number 1 resort in America, was introduced to Nordine whose “life in balance” philosophy was in tune with Nordine’s mind over body concept. Mr. DeNucci invited Nordine to create a fitness program at Miraval that would encompass the mind over body and life in balance approaches to life.
