[edit] Company History
Nordic European Airlines began its life in 1991 as Nordic East Airways using Douglas DC-9-41 aircraft on charters to the Mediterranean region. In 1992 the airline received two MD-80s. Because they needed an aircraft with a longer range than the MD-80s, the airline acquired Boeing 737-400 aircraft and the DC-9s and MD-8s were returned to the leasing companies while more 737s were acquired.
In 1995 Nordic East acquired Lockheed L-1011s from Cathay Pacific and with those the charter work was expanded. The airline changed its name to Nordic European Airlines - NEA at the end of 1996, but by the next year the airline was in financial difficulties and operations were suspended March 1998 with the airline went bankrupt.[1]
