Nordeste Linhas Aéreas Regionais was an airline based in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. It was a regional airline operating scheduled services in north-east Brazil. Its main base was Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport, Salvador.[1]

[edit] History

The airline was established and started operations in June 1976. It was formed by the Bahia state government which provided two-thirds of the start-up capital, with Transbrasil providing the rest. It later came under the control of Varig until that airline came close to bankruptcy in 2005 and substantially downsized in 2006. As part of restructuring, Varig was divided and sold. The "new" Varig (VRG Linhas Aéreas) kept the brand, and the "old" Varig was spinned off along with its debt and the Nordeste brand.

As of October 2006 the CEO Miguel Dau declared that the airline wants to resume operations at the beginning of 2007 using five aircraft to destinations inside and outside Brazil. He also stated that the headquarters will be transferred from Salvador to Rio de Janeiro.[citation needed] The airline will be called Flex Linhas Aéreas.

[edit] Destinations

Nordeste Linhas Aéreas Regionais operated services (in its own right) to the following domestic scheduled destinations (at January 2005): Porto Seguro, Salvador and São Paulo.
