[edit] In order to set a religious cultural map of the UK

I did it first with Scotland, and many of you came to help and discuss, now I'm doing it with Northern Ireland, I'm also going to add a page about Northern Irish Presbyterians and Anglicans as well. Next step will be Wales then, and finally England. Feel free to discuss and bring your own contributions! Gianmaria Framarin 22:51 2 June 2006

[edit] Is there any evidence to back up the claim that all these people are Roman Catholic?

There's a danger that there is an assumption (totally false) that Irish Republicans are Roman Catholic. There have been and are many Protestant Irish Republicans. Getting somebody's religion wrong can be pretty offensive so I'd like to try to get some sources for these, and remove those that are unverified. Those listed may have been baptised as Roman Catholic (presumably as children and without having any say in the matter) but there is no thought given to whether or not they still practice that religion. I don't think the labelling is particularly helpful or accurate and in most cases has little bearing upon their notoriety. The title of the page also needs to be reconsidered. Where are the other 500,000 Northern Irish Catholics??? --Comfortablynumb247 17:16, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] What's the point?

Back when the Northern Ireland Protestants and Catholics were terrorizing each other, I always wondered how the combatants could so effectively figure out whom to attack -- how would anyone know who's who? It's not as if Protestants walked around with kick-me signs on their backs. Lists like these seem odd at best, dangerous at worst. McTavidge 05:21, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Secterian cat

What is the rational for this cat, were persons notability has nothing to do with religion. See this discussion.[1].--Domer48 09:53, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

I've removed the majority of the articles from this category. I think a lot more could be removed - I've left politicians/paramilitaries in for the time being, but I'm not sure just being involved in the Troubles is enough to warrant inclusion. Anyone agree? Stu ’Bout ye! 22:21, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Yep, Agree --Domer48 (talk) 00:56, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

I'd intend to depopulate the category with the following exceptions then: Thomas Burns, Francis Campbell, Mairead Corrigan, Phil Coulter, James Flanagan, Noeleen Hale, Seamus Heaney, Neil Lennon, Jean McConville, Brian McCargo, Gerry McGeough, Liam Neeson, Dana and Betty Williams. They are the only ones I can see whose religion is related to their notability. Stu ’Bout ye! 14:13, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Sounds ok. I would also suggest you look at the comments I have made here and here. There is a number of "discussions" I was involved in else were, I have the links some were or other. But ye work away. --Domer48 (talk) 14:46, 22 November 2007 (UTC)
