[edit] Magnus
Welcome to Wikipedia. Its always a pleasure to have another Wikipedian, because we do need good editors.
About your article The Magnus. It has been listed on Wikipedia:Votes for Deletion, because a large number of users feel that it is just something that someone made up and posted on the 'Pedia. If you want to contribute to articles, we greatly appreciate it. But it will save yourself and everyone else a lot of time if you could try to steer away from articles that are most likely irrelevant.
Cheers, •→Iñgólemo←• 03:21, 2004 Sep 29 (UTC)
I am very sorry. It won't happen again. I just intended to make an article in the sandbox then save it to my computer, but my coworkers in the (Magnus) project convinced me to leave it up. Again, sorry. --NoPetrol 05:43, 29 Oct 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Neutralization's comment
In answer to your question, Xed has accused Neutralization of being me (in Wikipedia parlance, of being my "sockpuppet"). While I'm not sure exactly what Neutralization was saying, and he hasn't been exactly helpful in clearing up this whole matter, I think the gist of it was that he was insisting he was no-one's sockpuppet. [edit] Italics and Islamic terrorists
Okay, he's said he withdraws his statement. Perhaps we should drop it now. Why don't you edit that post, mister Poor, so that people don't get angry anymore. It seems like someone has italicized the words "all terrorists are Islamic", anyway. (By the way, I bet I can guess who did that in two tries.) --NoPetrol 20:49, 17 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Huh. I was wrong. --NoPetrol 01:00, 18 Nov 2004 (UTC)
[edit] New "Wikistress" meters are now available!
I'm helping! Yay!

- Ha! That's great :). Do you have them in PNG? →Raul654 04:28, Nov 19, 2004 (UTC)
- I can make it in PNG, but with a constant file size it looks better as *.jpg.
Thanks alot for the great wikistress images, I especially love Image:Wikistress3D 4 v3.jpg, although I hope never achieving that level of wikistress. For my guess on the location, I'm thinking Dubai, looking at the Burj al-Arab? -- Solitude\talk 12:33, Nov 22, 2004 (UTC)
- Sorry, that is incorrect. --NoPetrol 23:00, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Comments on "AIDS" page?
Did you really make the comment on Talk:AIDS? It's in very poor taste; the reason why I ask is it seems so out of character with your other edits. --Robert Merkel 00:24, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)
He is talking about a comment I made in the talk page associated with the AIDS article (which has been deleted). I basically said that aids mostly kills stupid people in America and other developed countries. Is this not true? AIDS is completely preventable. Sex doesn't happen by accident. Why should a person who has given themself AIDS deserve more sympathy than someone who has given themself lung cancer by smoking cigarettes? --NoPetrol 02:25, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)
I agree with Robert Merkel that this comment seems greatly out of line, looking at your other contributions. You must realise that AIDS can be prevented quite effectively by modern contraceptives, but it is still a disease. A lot of diseases can be prevented in some way, but a compassionate society calls for healing and taking care of people whether they could have prevented harm done to them or not. This does not even include the vast amount of people especially in underdeveloped countries that contract AIDS because they are raped and abused by the men in their society, who could care less about women contracting a fatal disease. Then there is the issue of undereducation and poverty, there are simple millions of people that can't afford any means of contraception, which can be very expensive in poor countries, partly because of international patents on medicine. Then there is the group of people that do not even know about AIDS prevention, people that have no clue that they could be endangering their health directly by having sex. This is further aggrevated by religous groups that excert a large amount of power a lot of undeveloped countries and actively try to prevent people from using the appropriate contraceptives, as they feel it goes against their god's will. All in all, it is a complex topic and certainly does not warrant a comment like that, I hope you'll rethink it and maybe dive into the matter a little bit more before making such statements! Cheers and good luck, -- Solitude\talk 12:47, Nov 22, 2004 (UTC)
I'm sorry. I realize that a person doesn't deserve to die for making one mistake. --NoPetrol 22:06, 22 Nov 2004 (UTC)
Really, the reasons behind my posting of that comment which at this point I judge to be very offensive and inappropriate can be summarized by this diagram:
I hope that this clears a few things up.

[edit] Ellipse page
Thank you, NoPetrol!! Your animated GIF is a dream come true! I was thinking earlier today, "Boy, it sure would be nice to have an animation that goes around the ellipse, but I'd have to struggle for hours just to find the right tool and then learn how to use it." I never would have thought of having the lengths of the lines displayed like that (the blue line/red line). Fantastic!
I think I share your misgiving about the size of the graphic. Here's a thought: could you make the text a lot smaller? Then the image could be smaller, the ellipse animation itself would still be readable, and the image wouldn't de-emphasize the main-line text.
Anyway, thanks for a classic piece of work!

[edit] Reflections
May I ask what picture you used for the environment box of the reflecting wiki-thermometer? Is it a bottle near a tree? --chris 00:17, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)

Cool set of images, do you mind if I make a new final version based on your originals? BTW, the reflection looks more like a Turner watercolour in reverse to me ... sorry. --Cactus.man 19:35, 8 August 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Cockfight
I appreciate your desire to avoid opinions, but I don't see how you can say that calling cockfighting bloody is an opinion. It is called a bloodsport, after all, and the aim is for one rooster to kill or maim the other. It isn't possible to have a cockfight without blood. Now it may well be that using the word bloody in the Antonio López de Santa Anna article is intended to show him to be a brutal man, but I don't see that either. In any case, I think you may be going a little too far in bending over backwards for objectivity. No big deal, but it caught my eye. Cheers, -Willmcw 23:58, 14 Dec 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Re: Andy Kaufman lives!
Heh: User:Paektu dates from before I joined the project, it seems. Wouldn't surprise me if it were the same troll (then again, my cynical side tells me there are enough people like this in the world that having two such polar opposites on Wikipedia isn't so unlikely either). To answer your question: I'm afraid I can't. Only meta:developers can see a logged-in user's IP (by "see" I mean check the logs). That link will point you to a list of developers you may choose to contact. Note that they're busy people so don't take it personally if a reply isn't received soon. Happy editing, -- Hadal 03:56, 15 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Ellipse & animation
I think the mediawiki 1.4 upgrade messed up something with external links in caption texts... I fixed the broken stuff on ellipse but since you saw it before it was broken, you may want to play around with it to get it to looking like whatever it looked like before the upgrade. Your image is really good, but do you think you could slow it down? I think it might be more effective if it was slower. Just my opinion though. Cheers. CryptoDerk 17:54, Dec 26, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Wikistress
I'm sorry if this is a bit stupid, but I can't figure out how to get the wikistress meter on my wikipedian page. Howabout1 03:44, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)
-
- You need to purchace a USB supported Wikistress monitor. Once you plug the monitor into your computer and insert the hypodermic Wikistress measurement probes into the back of your head, the meter will appear on your page automatically. Oh, wait, April Fools Day is already over, isn't it? Well, then, just put the images onto your page like you would any other image: by text such as , where NUMBER is a number from 1 to 4 measuring your current Wikistress. --NoPetrol 07:35, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] WikiStress Level 5 discovered 'in the wild'
It's official, several users have been discovered suffering from Level 5 WikiStress. A USB-enabled WikiStress Monitor is not a prerequisite for affliction; a standard monitor is, equally, not adequate protection: Check it out here.
Thanks go to NoPetrol for use of the original 3D images.
Have fun ... --Cactus.man 18:16, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
- Pretty cool. What did you use to do that? --NoPetrol 18:22, 12 August 2005 (UTC)
-
- I used your L4 image, filled in the top of the flask, darkened down a bit, added a purple glow to the edge and then applied a motion blur effect. All done in Paintshop Pro 7. Didn't quite manage to get the vibration effect I was after. Might develop a V2 image? --Cactus.man 07:40, 13 August 2005 (UTC)

- Which is now here.
[edit] pantless wikistress level
hey,
i saw a level 1 version of wikistress that said "i'm not wearing any pants." Any idea where that is?--ZeWrestler Talk 19:17, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

- Well could you tell me where it is? I think in some software update the image description pages got completely erased. Even the histories are no longer there, and it was those description pages that linked all the wikistress things together. I guess I'll fix it all later today. --NoPetrol 19:52, 9 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Image & fair use
I have been sent an image from a 1789 opera "Nozze di figaro". Searched and found it is part of an image from several website. I have uploaded it but not yet used it as uncertaint. According to Copyright it is expired sometinme ago (1789....) here is the link image

- Why are you asking me? I don't know. If it's from 1789 it's probably fair to use. --NoPetrol 00:45, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
