Nomen novum

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A nomen novum (Latin for "new name") or replacement name is a scientific name that is created specifically to replace a name which is a junior synonym or homonym; that is, a more recent name which is either the same taxon (a synonym), or is spelled the same (a homonym) as an older name.
