NOLA is Down's first album. It was released on September 19, 1995. The songs on the album were written mainly by Phil Anselmo and Pepper Keenan between 1991 and 1995. NOLA recently went gold with 500,000 copies sold in America.
The band went on hiatus as of 1996 as all members continued their main bands until they reunited in 2001 for their second album, Down II.
The title is the abbreviation for New Orleans (N.O.), Louisiana (La.).
The band has announced that it plans to re-release NOLA, the only Down album with original bassist Todd Strange, in 2008, remastered and re-recorded with current bassist Rex Brown.[1]
