[edit] History
Previously known as Suppuration, then Crystalline Darkness and Nocturnal Mortum (with a c), Nokturnal Mortum gained their first Western recognition with the release of their album Goat Horns, their second full length album, notable for having two keyboardists play on the album, often on the same song. The band recorded a cover version of Burzum's My Journey To The Stars in the tribute album Visions – A Tribute to Burzum.
They are associated with the National Socialist black metal movement; such artists are often explicit in their covers (see NeChrist one for example), their lyrics, interviews, shows and through articles on their webpage - Nokturnal Mortum are no different.
In 2002, Varggoth started another project by the name of Aryan Terrorism, to add to his increasingly wide range of projects outside Nokturnal Mortum, and to spread his political beliefs in a more explicit way. Another Nokturnal Mortum side project done by Varggoth is Mistigo Varggoth Darkestra, an ambient/black metal project formed in 1994. The most famous album of this project, The Key To The Gates Of The Apocalypse, is most likely known particularly due to its long runtime (one track in 72 minutes) and combination of dark ambient and fast black metal.
Varggoth has also taken part in the live shows and recordings of the Russian National Socialist black metal band Temnozor, and has participated in the Polish/Ukrainian white nationalist metal band Warhead, which includes members of Poland's skinhead band Honor. He has also taken part in the recordings of Lucifugum and Munruthel.
The band's next album The Voice Of Steel will be released in 2008 and will include a cover of "Valhalla", originally performed by Bathory.
