Nokomis Regional High School is a secondary school located in Newport, Maine. It is the only public high school located in Maine School Administrative District 48 and schools students from Newport, Corinna, Palmyra, Hartland, St. Albans and Plymouth. Students from MSAD38 towns Etna and Dixmont are also tuitioned to Nokomis, however MSAD38 shares a Superintendent with MSAD 22.
"The mission of Nokomis Regional High is to foster a community of responsible, successful, and mutually respectful learners.". Nokomis is a wonderful high school where students enjoy learning and get involved in school activities. Students have an outstanding sense of school pride and love to be in their home away from home.
As of 2005, the school principal is Arnold B. Shorey. The school mascot is the warrior, and the sports team name is "Nokomis Warriors". However, the mascot recently been a topic of controversy due to it being possibly politically incorrect.
According to 2004 data, of the approximately 770 students enrolled, 99% were Caucasian.
Nokomis Regional High School is accredited by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges, with their most recent evaluation for accreditation taking place in 2000.
Among the activities at Nokomis are included the Drama Club, Gay-Straight Alliance, Key Club, Bible Club, a Deliberation Squad, Future Business Leaders of America, JROTC, Latin Club, Astronomy Club, Yearbook, Art Club, Guitar Club, Newspaper (The Warrior Call), a Mixed Tape Club, and an Anime Club. The Video Communications class, taught by Matt Brown operates Nokomis Warrior Broadcasting, a cable access channel on Time Warner Cable Channel 5. Nokomis fields sports teams in Basketball, Baseball, Softball, Field Hockey, Track and Field, Football, Wrestling, Golf and Soccer.
