[edit] Background

Noa Boalia[1][2] is Zed's friend from the city, Calm. Unlike Zed, who was considered a delinquent, Noa was an upstanding citizen of Calm; he was even voted to become the representative of his school. Noa would often make up excuses for his friend every time someone tries to talk bad about him. Due to their obvious differences, most people wonder why Noa even hangs around Zed. In a flashback, Noa reveals that Zed saved him from bullies when they were young. Ever since then, he has followed Zed and has tried to help in any way possible.

Noa also gave Zed a token of their frienship; two feathers attached by a sort of round metal (somewhat resembling a dreamcatcher). He also did not make any insulting remarks when he met Zed's mother, Sara, who was in a hospital at the time. Instead, he treated her like normal, which Zed thanked him for.

Since birth, Noa has been stricken with a deadly disease. His disease has caused him to have to always wear a brace around his neck and spine. Doctors have estimated that he might not live past the age of thirty. He has also been told that he would shorten his life span if he was to take part in anything that requires drastic movements.

[edit] Personality

Noa is considered to have a kind and pure soul. He is also quite intelligent and usually thinks before he acts. After befriending Zed, who was ostracized by the rest of the community, he became the only one that supported and looked out for him. Though Noa is stricken with a life threatening disease, he insists on pursuing his goals wholeheartedly. He prefers to live a life full of adventure rather than one where he just safely lays in bed, counting down to his demise. Even though people see no similarities between him and Zed, Noa believes that they both share the same desire for freedom; all he wanted was to be free from his sickness.

Throughout the series, Noa was subject to many psychological attacks. He has been shown to give in to those attacks, drastically changing his personality a few times in the series. Without a solid, strong figure or values to hold on to, he can easily be engulfed by darkness, thus forgetting his initial desires.

[edit] Story

[edit] Neotopia

After Zed goes through the portal to Templer, Noa is eventually teleported to a militaristic land called Neotopia by various Neotopian summoners. While within this new country, a man by the name of Carter took care of Noa while he was at Neotopia. He is healed by healing shards, to the point where he no longer feels sickly. He also befriended Keith, who greatly reminded him of Zed due to his exceedingly rebellious personality, and Aisha, spending a lot of time with them until their friend Gale came back. Gale is a soldier, and as such, adheres to Neotopia's "ultimate rules" with inhuman resolve. Noa is disturbed by Gale's actions, and tries his best to save the town, but is arrested and taken away. After more enforcers of Neotopia arrive, Noa sees Carter executed right before him, even when it had been performed by the man's very own son. Noa later realizes his monstrous-like power emitting from his shard when he accidentally burns away a section of Neotopia after seeing the people he held dear to him die. Aisha uses a shifting shard to send Noa away from his suffering.

Noa afterwards is seen awaking within an unknown native area with a cute little girl by the name of Sagiri, and others. He then noticed a black, silver lined box that radiated its will to Noa. Noa, at first, thought nothing of this, however, later on, when Noa says his farewells to the native people, the box radiates to a large extent. The box releases a continuous noise, which only Noa can hear, and Sachira, a key spirit bears its will before him. To the great dislike of Noa, however, the destructive energy that had been emitted during the spirit's awakening desolated the land and killed all of the people Noa had been with, except for Sagiri. A certain woman of high ranking within Neotopia then arrives to take Noa back to Neotopia.

From then on, he is firmly in the clutches of Neotopia's elite warrior class, who value him for his latent shard casting abilities, and for his possession of a thunder key spirit named Sachira. They manage to psychologically warp him to the point where he embraces Neotopia's laws whole heartedly. He appears though to still be the kind person he once was, but he has since changed and will follow Neotopia's laws whenever someone breaks them. He meets Zed, takes back Keith and kills him after Zed and Roya has shifted. Eventually, he meets Zed again in a tournament held in Neotopia, but they shift from friends to adversaries. After the battle in Neotopia, Noa became devastated after losing the ultimate rules, which he relied so heavy on.

[edit] Lord Doruga

He was then hired by Jeem under the alias "Lord Doruga" and worked for Task. His true intentions are then revealed that he, himself, wishes to gather all six key spirits. He feels that once he does, he will finally be able to get past his weak body and become strong with the ultimate power. Noa finally obtains all of the key spirits which then revives Tasker. Noa states that he is happy until he has a flashback of him and Zed together. He explains that the only purpose for obtaining the key spirits was to help Zed and that he didn't want the power he got. When Tasker was about to become one with Noa, Zed pleads for Tasker to take him instead. Tasker is pleased to hear this and tells Zed he was the chosen one, he then leaves Noa's body to go into Zed.

After Zed left, Noa stayed in Templer. He is seen at the end sitting in a wheel chair with Roya. He's then seen throwing a paper plane into the wind, which is supposedly received by Zed, who's in another world.

[edit] Physical condition

Even though he has a restricting disease, Noa showed a vast increase in his physical abilities upon his arrival in Neotopia. Though his disease could not be completely cured, he was slightly healed by healing shards, enabling him to move more freely than before. His speed, reflexes, and strength increased dramatically. He became an extremely skilled shard caster, able to defeat many opponents. He also proved to be powerful enough to control five key spirits at once.

Unfortunately, his excessive movements as a shard caster, later proved to be his downfall. He later ended up in a wheelchair, shown to be very sick, even struggling to throw a paper airplane into the wind.
