RAAF 78 KittyHawk Fighter Squadron

Formed at Camden July 1943 Commanded by Squadron Leader Grant Walker . 78 squadron fought the last major air combat by the RAAF in the Pacific War. 78 Squadron has the distinction of destroying more enemy aircraft in a single action than any RAAF unit during the south west Pacific /New Guinea campaign and can claim honour of shooting down of the last japanese aircraft by the RAAF in the New Guinea campaign. submitted by Rod Keady 78 Squadron Association Australia www.78squadron.com.au
