Dear Phlegmswicke of Numbtardia:

I reapplied the North Korea Google earth link to the "Kaesong" page because (as discussed with other editors before) the file it links to is not spam by the Wikipedia definition. It is, in fact, the most authoritative mapping of Kaesong publicly available. The link does not go to my personal site (or one with which I am affiliated), nor am I selling anything. I think you will be convinced if you see the file on Google Earth yourself.

Thanks for contributing to Wikipedia,

-NKeconWatch

Dear Wikipedia users:

I have just opened an account here on Wikipedia (Nov. 18, 2007). I am still learning the etiquette, but look forward to participating in the community.

I have recently had a probelm with some posts I made (before I created an account), and I just want to make sure that no one gets the wrong idea about my intentions. I have posted the commentary below, and you may access it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:76.111.4.187

" Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in Baekdu Mountain. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. --Nlu (talk) 07:29, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

I concur. Please read the above policies carefully and stop reverting other editors deletions of your links to

http://bbs.keyhole.com/ubb/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Number=861907&page=&vc=1&PHPSESSID=#Post861907 (which you consistently describe in all your single purpose edits as "North Korea Uncovered], (North Korea Google Earth) the most authoritative mapping of North Korea on Google Earth.". Thank you. Alice.S 07:46, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

76.111.4.187 (now known as NKeconwatch) response: I apologize for offending you, but I am not a regular user of Wikipedia. I am simply trying to post information that I believe readers would find interesting. I have read your list of concerns posted above, and I believe that I have met all the criteria you have listed:

1. I am not linking to my personal site. I am linking to the Google Earth Community (of which I am not affiliated) where a wealth on information on North Korea is available.

2. I am not trying to attract people to promote a product. This google earth file is not a product. I am not selling anything. This file is just a whole bunch of geographical information on popular locations in North Korea. Nothing more. (and it is a very comprehensive listing).

3. I have posted this link on several pages becasue I believe it really is helpful information. For instance, on the page about North Korean culture, you have posted pictures of: the Tower of the Juche Idea, the People's Palace of Culture, the May Day Stadium (Arirang), The Grand People's Study House (Library), and Seonggyun Gwan Academy in Kaesong. I have been to all of these facilities and have simply located them on Google Earth. I am just trying to make it easy for others to do the same.

I also added it to the DMZ page. I have mapped out the entire Northern side of the DMZ including all of the northern buildings (based on my own trip there), as well as the location of the signing of the armistice, and the two major North Korean military lines.

As for Mt. Paektu, I have also mapped out most of the locations in Samjiyon where visitors go.

4. So in summary, I was surprised there would be any oposition to my making so much unique information on North Korea so easily accessible. I would like you to check out the file on Google Earth to judge for yourself. I hope it convinces you that I am not trying to sell anything, I am just trying to make more information more widely available to people who might care to know. I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

P.S. I replaced the link to a couple of sites before I figured out how this message board worked, so I apologize if I irritated anyone. I did alter the posts to make them more germane to to the sites. Again, please post your thoughts here. I hope we can come to a consensus.

Thanks for your considered and thoughtful reply. As an Encyclopedia, we tend to be quite selective in adding external links and the scale of your activities had caused concern. I note that you have now switched to different IP's. Please consider signing up for a free account. 222.155.23.9 (talk) 19:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

76.111.4.187 response: Thank you. I just created an account "NKeconwatch". I posted my email address to the system, so anyone can email me if they have a question.

Also, I want to add that I did not switch IP addresses out of any desire to bypass the system. I just tend to access the Internet from multiple locations during the week. I look forward to hearing your thoughts. -Best

I understand, NKeconwatch. Unfortunately there are some very "bitey" people on Wikipedia (it's a big community) who don't always assume good faith and they can be calmed if you have an account. You may wish to copy this exchange to your new User talk page and "sign" your talk page posts using 4 tildes (thus NKeconwatch (talk) 22:05, 18 November 2007 (UTC)). Thanks for listening! It has been pointed out to me that I placed my "welcome message" in the wrong place. If you feel that it is inappropriate in any way, then please do not hesitate to delete it - I will not be in the slightest way miffed. All the best! Alice.S 02:59, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Human rights in North Korea

Personally I felt your recent addition of external mapping links at Human rights in North Korea article was helpful - but could you perhaps amalgamate the various references so they are slightly less redundant? I also encourage you to get involved with the text of the various articles - commenting on their discussion (or "talk") pages might be a good way to start... Alice.S 02:58, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

Response: Thanks, Alice. I will do so. I am happy to start working on the text of various sites, particularly on the North Korean economy. I am also working on a research paper on North Korea, and that is taking up a lot of my spare time at the moment.NKeconwatch 18:15, 30 November 2007 (UTC)NKeconwatch

Excellent. I look forward to seeing your edits in the near future. The Transport section of our North Korea article needs work... Alice.S 18:58, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
