Nitte is a village in Karkala taluk of Udupi district in Karnataka. The village is on the way from Padubidri to Karkala. Its 8 km away from karkala and 54 km from mangalore. This place is well connected by buses frequenting one in 15 mins. Its located in foothills of western ghats, recives very high rainfall
Nitte houses many educational institutes. Prominent among them being the Nitte Mahalinga Adyanathaya Memorial Institute of Technology (NMAMIT).
NMAM Institute of Technology, Nitte was established in 1986 in memory of Nitte Mahalinga Adyanthaya, a distinguished engineer of the district. The college is affiliated to the Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum and is recognised by the All India Council for Technical Education, New Delhi. It is accredited by the National Board for Accreditation (NBA). NMAMIT has been certified to the ISO 9001-2000 standards for quality education by KEMA, Netherlands.
NMAMIT currently runs 7 undergraduate BE programs, 3 M.Tech. programs , MBA and MCA programs. It has University affiliated Research Centers in the Departments of CSE, E&C,E&E, Mechanical and MBA. Annual intake of the college (for the first year) is about 900 (UG=650; PG=250) This institute has been recognized as a Lead Institute under TEQIP (Technical Education Quality Improvement Program) of WorldBank. They were also given the best College of the year award once in 2005 and next in 2007 – by VTU, Belgaum. Institute has obtained National Level “Gurukul Jyothi Award” for the year 2006-07.
