Talk:Nisbet, Scottish Borders

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Be reasonable. There is no settlement here at all, nor has there been, unless you are claiming the few homes which the converted stable block has been made into. The house, however, deserves notice but possibly on the Duns page under its own heading. David Lauder 17:42, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

Not sure what has happened here, but we now have two articles essentially on Nisbet House, one as [Nisbet House] and one as [Nisbet]. They were originally one article, as [Nisbet], but were split by Supergolden on 12 June 2006. Perhaps they should be merged back together? I don't think they belong under Duns, which would get a bit unwieldy if every historic house within 4 miles was included. But would be as happy to see the merged articles under West Nisbet, Nisbet, or Nisbet House.Mark Nesbitt 20:20, 7 January 2007 (UTC).

Yes. I agree. David Lauder 21:26, 7 January 2007 (UTC)

I created this article, and by "settlement" meant Nisbet House and environs. My original purpose for the article was to describe the location of the Battle of Nesbit Moor, which some materials on the Web erroneously locate at Nesbit. I agree with merging the Nisbet House material into this article, and redirecting Nisbet House here. Generally, I prefer a low notability standard for geographical locations. There are many Wikipedia articles on individual subway stations, for example, and that's fine with me. Let me put it another way, any location mentioned in historical writing by David Hume (as was this place) deserves a Wikipedia article. :-) Nesbit 02:44, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
I don't think we disagree here (although "settlement" would normally equate to hamlet, village or even town). David Lauder 09:36, 8 January 2007 (UTC)
