The Nissan RD engine series is substantially similar in design to the Nissan RB engine series, except that it is a diesel engine. It is a single overhead cam engine. From 1997 onwards the turbocharged versions were fitted with electronic fuel injection. In normally aspirated form these engines were used in the Nissan Laurel with a displacement of 2.8 L. The turbocharged version known as the RD28T (or RD28ET with electronic fuel injection) were fitted to the Nissan Patrol.
