Cauvery Nisargadhama (also known as Kaveri Nisargadhama) is an island formed by river Kaveri and is used as a picnic spot near Kushalnagar in the district of Kodagu or Coorg, (The Scotland of India) [1], in Karnataka, India. It is approximately 3 km (1.9 mi) from Kushalnagar, off the State Highway and 30 km (19 mi) from Madikeri, the district capital and 65 km (40 mi) from Mysore. It is a holiday destination in Karnataka.[2].

It is a 25-acre island, with lush foliage of thick bamboo groves, sandalwood and teak trees and surrounded by the Cauvery river. The island is accessible through a hanging rope bridge. It is a tourist spot, where the river Cauvery flows with shallow water encircling the island. It is also a wild life sanctuary of its own kind. There are deer-rabbit-peacock park, children's park and orchidarium in the resort.

Tourists are allowed to get into water at a few shallow and safe points along the river. Elephant rides and boating are some of the other attractions. It also has a forest department run guest house and treetop bamboo cottages.

Kodagu is situated on the eastern slope of the Western Ghats. It is a hilly district; the lowest elevation is 900 m (3,000 ft) above sea-level.

The Kaveri River, (Kannada: ಕಾವೇರಿ), also spelled Cauvery in English, is one of the major rivers of India, which is considered sacred by Hindus. The river originates at Talakaveri in the Western Ghats in the state of Karnataka, flows generally south and east through Karnataka and Tamil Nadu and across the southern Deccan plateau through the southeastern lowlands, emptying into the Bay of Bengal through two principal mouths.

Nearby attractions include Bylakuppe Tibetan Settlement, Abbey Falls, and Madikeri.

Golden Temple in Namdroling Monastery at Bylakuppe is a tourist spot which is around 5 km (3.1 mi) away. The Namdroling Nyingmapa Monastery (or Thekchog Namdrol Shedrub Dargye Ling) is the largest teaching center of Nyingmapa – a lineage of Tibetan Buddhism – in the world. The monastery is home to a sangha community of over five thousand lamas (both monks and nuns), a religious college (or shedra) and hospital.

Abbey Falls (also Abbi Falls) (Kannada: ಅಬ್ಬೆ ಜಲಪಾತ / ಅಬ್ಬೆ ಫಾಲ್ಸ್)is around 15 km (9.3 mi) from Nisargadhama. This waterfall is located between private coffee plantations with stocky coffee bushes and spice estates with trees entwined with pepper vines. The falls appear suddenly, the water cascading over rocks into calm pools.[3]

Madikeri (Kannada:ಮಡಿಕೇರಿ), also known as Mercara, is the headquarters of Kodagu district. It is around 20 km (12 mi) from Nisargadhama. Attractions at Madikeri includes Raja's Seat, Madikeri Fort, Talacauvery etc.
