Nippon Television Network Corporation (日本テレビ放送網株式会社 Nihon Terebi Hōsōmō Kabushiki-gaisha?) (TYO: 9404) is a television network in Shiodome area of Minato-ku, Tokyo, Japan owned by the Yomiuri Shimbun. It is known as Nihon TV (日本テレビ Nihon Terebi?), contracted to Nittele (日テレ Nittere?), as well as "NTV".

[edit] History of Nippon TV

NTV's television network has been plagued by scandal in recent years, most notably after it was revealed that an NTV producer paid viewers to manipulate TV ratings. NTV Chairman Seiichiro Ujiie was compelled to step down from his post at the National Association of Commercial Broadcasters of Japan, an industry-wide ethics body, in October 2003. Shortly thereafter, he resigned as Chairman. NTV subsequently came under fire for staging part of a news show.

The company has intimate connections with Studio Ghibli, led by Hayao Miyazaki, and holds the exclusive rights to broadcast their motion pictures. It also produced the popular anime series Detective Conan, Death Note, and Hajime no Ippo, as well as InuYasha (which was produced though its Osaka affiliate, Yomiuri TV). NTV has also been broadcasting the yearly Lupin III TV specials since 1989, which they co-produce with Tokyo Movie Shinsha.
