NIOC Recent Discoveries
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Iran still has huge potential for new significant gas discoveries: areas like Caspian Sea, North East, Central Kavir and especially areas starting from Aghar and Dalan gas fields in Fars province up to the Strait of Hormuz and Central Persian Gulf have considerable amount of undiscovered gas resources.[1]
According to Exploration Directorate of NIOC, there are about 150 unexplored anticlines in Iran.[2]
One Western geologist who once worked for the BP-led Consortium in this country says;[3]
the undiscovered potential can be as large, if not larger, than Iran's current oil and gas reserves. He says despite the enormous quantities of oil and gas discovered to date and the length of time spent in exploration, Iran is so prolific that substantial new discoveries can be expected with confidence.
Since 1995, National Iranian Oil Company NIOC (NIOC) has made significant oil and gas discoveries, standing for some 70-billion-barrel (11,000,000,000 m³) of oil in place and 160×1012 cu ft (4,500 km³) of gas in place, which are listed below.[4]
