Nils Handal

Nils Kristoffer Handal (born 18 June 1906 in Bergen, died 28 December 1992) was a Norwegian politician for the Labour Party.
He was Minister of Industry 1953–1955 during the cabinet Torp, and Minister of Defense 1955–1961 during the third cabinet Gerhardsen.
On the local level he was mayor of Bergen from 1945 to 1953. His career in politics ended with the post of County Governor of Oppland, which he held from 1961 to 1976.
Outside of politics, he graduated as cand.philol. in 1932 and worked as a school teacher from 1933 to 1961.
