Shri. Nilkanth Tiwari was one the most prolific lyricists and poets of his times. He died in 1976 but left behind a collection of poems and songs that are still popular across India. A staunch Hindi songwriter and poet known for his impeccable command over the language. He was closely associated with Legends such as Kishore Kumar and Dilip Kumar in their early years of the Indian Film Industry. Kishore Kumar's first yodling hit song was "Tikram Baazi", which was written by Nilkanth Tiwari. He also acted as a supporting actor in a movie with Dev Anand.
He spent his youth in the state of Madhya Pradesh and then came down to Mumbai to be near to Film City, Tardeo which is one of the oldest studios in the city.
He also won the prestigious Sahitya Academy Award for his outstandanding work in the field of writing. He also composed jingles and was a known critic in the Indian Film Industry.
He died on 11 February 1976. He was survived by his wife Ramadevi Tiwari, two daughters and a son.
