[edit] Quotes

I have the following quote I would like added to the main article

"Had Turkey not intervened I would not only have proclaimed Enosis but I would have annihilated the Turks in Cyprus." Sampsun to Eleftherotipia February 26, 1981 --SolDrury 18:01, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

This guy should have never existed. He brought onto the Greeks much misery. (UNFanatic 05:10, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC))

[edit] Archangel of Freedom

Fought for freedom. Good man. --GreekWarrior 11:51, 1 August 2005 (UTC)

____________ The Turks would say the same of their troops... --SolDrury 18:01, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Birth

Regarding date and place of birth, this source claims Sampson was born 1935 in Nicosia. Also, it seems he died May 9, 2001. Rl 06:51, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Murderer of Turkish and Greek Cypriots

This guy was a fascistic Greek racist. He ordered the murder of many Turkish and Greek Cypriots, including women and children. The Turkish government replied to the attempted genocide of Turks with a division of the island into two: That of the Turks and that of the Greeks.

Sampson deserves more than any other person credit for the partition of Cyprus. Considering what would have happened to the Turkish Cypriot populace had the coup prevailed, I think that Turkey did the only possible thing.

=Lol, englishman or american, 7/7, 9/11 my friend, lets hope more are coming!

Nikos Sampson was a brave man. He was a man that stood for a greater Cyprus. He was betrayed and put as president of Cyprus. He didn't want anything but the best for Cyprus.

He was a great family man.

All he wanted was Enosis and the complete Hellenisation of the island.

I am Greek, Sampson was a fascist scum bag and he doesn't represent all of us. He caused us such misery with his stupid policies.

[edit] Sampson

"...He was a great family man..." . No doubt he loved animals too and doubtless his neighbours spoke well of him. Much the same was said of Adolf Eichmann amongst others. Sampson was a convicted murderer whose deluded obsession with enosis and ethnic cleansing led (ironically) to what now seems to be a permanent division of the island. He had not only Turkish but British and even Greek Cypriot blood on his hands. A real Ratko Mladic in his day was Sampson...

[edit] Neither an angel nor a devil

Having fought along the anti-colonial guerilla warfare of EOKA against the British would obviously make him a ruthless gunman to any Englishman (as would any IRA fighter), but a resistance hero to others. If we are to a follow Wiki-NPOV we must refrain from moralistic ejaculations. The events in 1974 are remain quite contoversial. There is nothing black-and-white about the events leading to the anti-Makarios coup and the ensuing Turkish invasion. Demonizing Sampson alone for what happened then is certainly an easy thing to do, but quite at the risk of sweeping other peoples' responsibilities under the carpet. [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:NSAMPSON.JPG

Image:NSAMPSON.JPG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
