[edit] WikiP Empathy

WikiP articles are not fan pages — even for Greek social democrats.

Apparently the following passes as encyclopedic:

"His grandfather was a member of the Greek parliament, and as a consequence, their house was always open. Nikos claims that these childhood experience gave him an understanding of how important empathy and solidarity is to humans. After finishing secondary school, he had to look for further education abroad, as his chances of getting into a Greek university were at the time very slim."

Hmm. Grandaddy was a Greek parliamentarian, but our buddy could not get into a Greek university. That must have taught him "an understanding of how important empathy and solidarity is to humans". But at least he only 'claims' this.

Hmm. Sometimes a good deal less 'commitment' to editing - and a good deal more caution - could be called for, especially when the editor is considerably less familiar with the subject-matter involved than the contributors who wrote an article in the first place. But that's just a general observation.

As for this page, since I made the edit before yours, I take it I'm one of those charged with showing the lack of commitment you referred to in your characteristically 'non-personal' edit summary. Actually, I had been committed enough to consider clarifying that Papadopoulos is a 'left-leaning' politician, but I thought that might be a little too 'affectionate'. In fact, I'd be very worried about inserting anything factually accurate into an article about a left-of-centre politician for fear you'd think it's 'loving'!

Now a gentle suggestion - if you really think the contents of an article are biased, has it occurred to you that it is actually possible to delete or change them yourself without making patronising/sarcastic comments about the writing style of the person who wrote it? A dry edit summary of "removed POV" would be perfectly sufficient. And as for other 'uncommitted' editors who didn't make the alterations you wanted for you - I'm afraid we're not your employees! (Or, for that matter, the employees of the International Democrat Union.) Sofia9 15:31, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
