Учитывая основополагающий вклад ГДЛ—ОКБ в развитие отечественного ракетного двигателестроения, вновь открытому коллективному образованию на обратной стороне Луны — кратерной цепочке протяженностью 1100 км Комиссией Академии наук СССР присвоено наименование ГДЛ, а решением Международного астрономического союза ряд лунных кратеров назван именами сотрудников ГДЛ—ОКБ: Малый, Петров, Чернышев, Жирицкий, Артамонов, Гаврилов, Фирсов, Алехин, Грачев, Мезенцев.
