Is Zherdev Ukrainian or Russian? I know that with the fall of the Soviet Union, nationality is a little confusing, but I recall hearing that Zherdev is Russian.

If he was born in Ukraine I'm inclined to think that he's Ukrainian. Although he could be ethnicly Russian, I bet he actually holds a Ukrainian passport.
