Maria Nicoletta Esmeralda "Nikki" Gonzalez Alvarez was a fictional character on the American soap opera Santa Barbara. She was portrayed by American actress Constance Marie from December 6, 1989 to September 19, 1990.
[edit] Character History
Nikki came to town in late 1989. She was introduced as the girlfriend of Travis Bucknell, a man who wanted to commit suicide. Nikki tried to reason with him, and he even tried to pull her down with him, but Cruz Castillo ended up saving the day. Nikki got a crush on Cruz, but he was completely not interested. It was yet a bit later revealed that Nikki was actually Maria Nicoletta Gonzalez, a policewoman working undercover. One of her first assignments consisted of saving the lives of Kelly Capwell and Ric Castillo, who were both targets of a dangerous criminal Craig Hunt. Nikki was wounded in a battle with Craig and ended up in a hospital, where she formed a friendship with Michael Donnelly.
However, once she was released from the hospital, things were far from perfect. Nikki was found by Marcos Llamera, a man involved in drug traffic, and it was revealed that Nikki used to work for him in the past. Nikki's brother Amado was held captive in exchange for Nikki's traffic services, and she was then forced to find a way to rescue her brother, but she couldn't do it without getting tangled back into the drug business. Nikki confessed her crimes to Michael and asked for his help. Marcos died of snake bite, but the troubles were still there. Marcos' boss Benny, who then turned out to be Kirk Cranston, kidnapped Nikki and Michael, but they were later rescued by Cruz.
It was then when Nikki was finally happy. Her past crimes were put behind her and she was able to fully concentrate on rebuilding her relationship with her brother, and to seek deeper into her relationship with Michael. Michael even proposed to Nikki, who happily accepted it, but an explosion at the Blue Sky Brigade office wounded Nikki, and she passed away as Michael held her in his arms.
