Nijemci

Nijemci is a village and a municipality in the Vukovar-Srijem county in Croatia. According to the 2001 census, there are 5,998 inhabitants in the municipality, 88.53% which are Croats.

The village's name means "Germans" in Croatian. It came about as a result of a large pre-World War II German population. They formed a town and named it after their ethnicity. During World War II, many Germans were expelled by Partisan forces from the town and the surrounding area, however the town still retained its name.
