Nihad Hrustanbegovic

Nihad Hrustanbegovic (born 1973 in Bosnia) is an accordionist. He started his music education at age of nine at the music school at Bijeljina - Bosnia. From the age of 15 he started professional musical education in the Music college of Tuzla. Here he got lessons from Professor Midhat Zulic. Between 1988 and 1991, Nihad won five different prizes as accordionist at the “Concurs for music students of Bosnia and former Yugoslavia”, among the others three prizes as soloist. He studied in that period Bosnian sevdah music, classical western music and modern music from twentieth century.

In 1994, Nihad came to the Netherlands because of the war in Bosnia. He continued his music education in 1995, at the ArtEZ - College for arts at Arnhem and Messiaen academy –special school for master of music performance where he got lesson from Miny Dekkers and Gerie Daanen. He followed also several master classes, including in Groningen with Friedrich Lips, Margit Kern, James Crab and in Tilburg at Joseph Maccerollo. Also he took part in the European project for new accordion music and - performance, an intensive programme for accordion students in the field of original accordion music. Participants to this project, where academies of Graz, Copenhagen, Rotterdam, Helsinki, Berlin and most accordionists from this project manifest themselves since then as ambassadors for modern accordion music. Hrustanbegovic received his Bachelors degree in 2000, and in 2002 his Master of Music degree. During his education, Nihad has been supported by the foundation for refugee students – UAF.

Nihad Hrustanbegovic has been very active as a performer and since 1995 he performed in the al Dutch major halls including at The music centre Vredenburg in Utrecht on 21-04-1998 during 50 year Jubilees of “UAF-stitching” in the presence of 1200 people and its Majesty Queen Beatrix and also in the famous “Knight Hal” in Den Haag on 23 June 2005 during fifth “Van Heuven Goedhart-Congres’ in the presence of among others Ex Prime minister of The Netherlands, Ruud Lubbers, minister Agnes van Ardenne and Paul Rosenmuler. He cooperates with a many artists among others with Acrobatic theatre dancing group “The Corpus” from Amsterdam, Flairck, Musicians without borders and Mozes Rosenberg. In 2003, he created his own ensemble called Mediterranean Sundance.
