Nightwolf's Pokémon Program Suite (or PokéSuite/NWPPS for short) is a program initially created by "DarkBlastoise" and "Nightwolf" in 1999 for all members of the Pokémon community to enjoy. It is a tool, currently written in Visual Basic .NET that lets you search and view Pokémon and innumerable other things. Downloading and using the program is entirely free of charge, though you must not redistribute this program. The Pokémon Database program included is designed as a replacement Pokémon Pokédex, as in, it shows information on anything that you have ever wanted to know about a particular Pokémon.

The latest beta version of Nightwolf's Pokémon Program Suite is 2.0.0.1220 Beta 2, and is currently available from Sourceforge.net. There is a full version on the way which will be released worldwide on January 20, 2007. The program itself still has a great deal of bugs that need to be fixed before the official release.

[edit] The History of the Program Suite

When the program first came out it was called DB's Pokémon Database and was created by a member of the Pokémon community who called himself DarkBlastoise, However as often happens things change and gave the Database to Nightwolf in 2001, who still kept the old name but changed a few things to keep it current and up to date.

In 2003, 2 years later, DarkBlastoise decided to downgrade his development team position to become an advisor only.

In 2005, 4 years after the acquisition, the first beta versions of the Program (under the watchful eye of Nightwolf) were released to the public which showcased some new additions (DB's Battle Chart, Ability Program and UnownDex) however there were some memory leaks due to the old Visual Basic 6 interface. They sported a new name and a new banner, After this date they became known as "DB's Pokemon Program Suite 2005" and not soon after that day, rumours began to circulate about a potential .NET Framework version.

In 2006, 1 year after the beta releases, the first semi-finished version became available (using Microsoft's recently released version 2 of the .NET Framework) on June 15, 2006, with the next to be released within the following weeks.

As of March 14, 2007 it is estimated that there have been 2854 downloads and at least 350 active users across the globe, with more on the way.

[edit] The Future of the Program Suite

Jason, I'll finish this later.

[edit] Legal or illegal?

Although the legality of the program has been and is disputed by some members of the internet community, Neither Nintendo nor Game Freak has never told the creators of the program or any of the developers to cease operation of the program and likely never will, as the Program Suite has been running for 7 years already and nothing has happened, Apart from somebody attempting to sell the program on eBay and was swifty dealt with.

Nightwolf's Pokémon Program Suite is not a new concept, as Offline Pokédexes have existed in the past in various forms.

[edit] Notes

The project on Sourceforge.net has had at least 3000 downloads as of March 14, 2007 according to the listing here.
