I live in San Francisco, California, USA. I'm a Linux/UNIX Systems Administrator, with eight years experience with several Linux distributions, Sun Solaris, and Microsoft Windows (NT/200/XP), and many network applications and services. I've used the skills I've gained in for-profit and academic work environments to also assist non-profit organizations with technical work, for either reduced-rate or free, based on ability to pay. I really enjoy working within the Open Source/Free Software model, but I'm aware of those areas where, currently, only proprietary software and hardware has the best answer to specific problems.
I alternate between atheism and agnosticism, but I'm generally not priggish about those beliefs, and it's not something I wear on my sleeve (well, except maybe on Halloween ;) ). I love studying the history of religions and cultures, and I'm very interested in Anthropology, Sociology, and economic politics. I am pro-choice, and a proud member of the ACLU and EFF. I've run a music record label (into the ground...), and had some working experience with grassroots political organizing. I like downhill skiing. I'm not a sports fan.
I am a fan of debate, and love the challenge it presents. I believe that editing and hashing out discussions on Wikipedia to create NPOV articles will help me to articulate arguments, understand the thinking of people I may disagree with, disagree with civility and gain a more well-rounded understanding of various political and social beliefs. Oh, yeah, and working on Wikipedia will also provide great fun!
