[edit] Future work

Coming soon: history, personalities. Stilgar135 19:37, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Would it violate copyright to post the Vow ("Night gathers, and now my watch begins... etc) on this page?

Probably not. I think US copyright law permits short excerpts and quotes, especially not used for profit.12.17.189.77 22:33, 19 April 2006 (UTC)

I gave the article a face lift and added some information, pictures and lists. I tried not to erase anything that was in the article as it was all good info, it just needed to be formated better. NeoFreak 02:25, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] New Stuff To Come

I added information current as of the events in "A Feast For Crows." Will expand on all subjects later. El Jorge 10:16, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Notable brothers

Two spoilers in the tagline= not good. I think that it would be acceptable to change it to "notable brothers to appear in the books" or something like that, considering the alternative. Stilgar135 01:55, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

True enough. Anyone who reads the books with enough attention to research independently, wouldn't they know the lines of succession? El Jorge 10:16, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

Logically, yeah, but I'm willing to bet that some people will come looking here before they've read them all. Or, alternatively, if somebody stumbles across this page knowing nothing about ASOIAF, I imagine they'd be pretty mad to have two of the major plot twists revealed so flagrantly. Stilgar135 10:28, 1 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Others Article Merge

I merged the Others article into this article after the merge sat and nobody objected to the idea. Pending more detail from Martin the Others don't have the substance for their own article. NeoFreak 09:18, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Notable Brothers Section

Concerning Thoren Smallwood are we sure that "self-proclaimed" is an accurate descriptive of his status as First Ranger after Benjen's disappearance? I would think that "acting" would be more appropriate as he was fairly well acknowledged in that role by the rest of the Watch. NeoFreak 12:51, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, "acting" would be the word to describe him. Benjen was not officially removed from office, so Smallwood served the function until they could discover Benjen's fate. I went ahead and changed it. Captain Crawdad 16:47, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Wall

Added a small section about the wall having been build up over the centuries. While not strong canon, it is heavily implied in the Old Bear's musings about the Watch not having the ability to expand the wall like it once had - this suggests that the Wall was not magically built to its current size by Bran the Builder, but that it started smaller and over the centuries grew to its huge size. Grey Wolf

I added a sectioncabout the connection between Melisandres Other and The Others (opponent's of the Nights Watch). Somebody will probably edit it out soon, but I have credit. No one seems to mention it about The Others. You knoe, The Other, god of cold and dark, The Others, bringing unnatural cold and dark with them. If I didn't do Wikipedia right, will someone please ask the editor of this page to include that?

[edit] New info

I've added more information on the Gifts, separated the Lords Commander (or is it Lord Commanders?), added past Lord Commanders, capitalized the Wall where mentioned (it is always capitalized in the books presumably to distinguish from other walls), and added a few links. Pejorative.majeure 05:26, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] cynophobe

In the section on Wildlings, there is the line "Harma, called "Dogshead", an infamous female raider and cynophobe." What does cynophobe mean? I can't find a definition on google and wikipedia only turns up the Night's Watch page. WLU 23:16, 18 December 2006 (UTC)

One who fears or hates dogs. It's one of those words that you can make up yourself by combining Greek root words. -Captain Crawdad 01:11, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Aaaaahhh! I put in cynophobe, should have been looking up cynophobia. I'll put in a clarification if people don't mind. Funny, I would have expected caniphobia. WLU
