The reference may have been found at http://www.guardiannewsngr.com/golf_weekly/article01/100605. Although the article doesn't make any mention of when the tournament actually started, only that there was a strong team in 1938. Jack 21:56, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

The Guardian link doesn't seem to work any more. 1938 was the year the Ikoyi Club 1938 was founded, but it was a merger of two clubs, one of them a pre-existing golf club, so the tournament may be older. There is no mention of this event on the long list of current tournaments on the club's site, so it appears that it is either defunct, or has moved to a different venue.
