Nightcrawlers (band)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Nightcrawlers were a regional Daytona Beach, FL band with a minor hit single, "The Little Black Egg", recorded in 1965. The single ultimately reached 85 on the national charts after it's third re-release in 1967. The main members were: Pete Thomason, Sylvan Wells, Robbie Rouse, Chuck Colon and Tommy Ruger.

Their sound is best described as sparse folk rock, popularized by The Byrds, The Beau Brummels, etc. They did one LP album for Kapp Records, but the original lineup disbanded in 1966, before the final (and most popular) release of "TheLittle Black Egg". The reformed Nightcrawlers did one more single for Kapp, "My Butterfly", in a more hard rock vein and then disbanded. The main songwriter, Charlie Conlon, later reformed the group under the name "Colon and the Nightcrawlers, although the group never recorded again after 1967. The group did continued with different members and eventually disbanded in 1970.

Although the group never gained wide fame, the simple hook of "The Little Black Egg" destined it to become a favorite cover for the garage bands of the era. In 2000, a retrospective CD with 24 cuts was released by Big Beat.

Nightcrawlers is a house music project assembled by producer, DJ and vocalist John Reid (b. 6 September 1967) from East Kilbride, Scotland. His 1993 dance song "Push the Feeling On" is considered today to be a classic track of the house music genre. In its original form the song hit #7 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart and briefly crossed over to pop radio, peaking at #80 on the Hot 100, spending fifteen weeks on the chart. It also reached #3 in the UK in 1995, Reid's biggest hit in his homeland.

In 2004, thanks to new remixes of the track, it re-entered the US dance chart, this time hitting #1.

Other successful singles by The Nightcrawlers were: "Surrender Your Love" (UK #7), "Don't Let The Feeling Go" (UK #13), "Let's Push It" (UK #23) feat. John Reid and Zeeteah Massiah as vocalists and "Push That Feeling On" (UK Indie #26)

John Reid is a successful songwriter in his own right having written a chart-topping UK single for Westlife (Unbreakable) and also songs for the likes of Tina Turner and Rod Stewart.

John Reid is a close friend of Simon Cowell and he co-wrote the Kelly Clarkson and Leona Lewis hit "A Moment Like This" with Jörgen Elofsson.
