[edit] Summary
Night of the Dead Aftermath (often abbreviated NOTDAM), is a custom scenario for Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne. The objective of the game is to follow various missions in a sector and overcome bosses and protect key targets. The scenario was developed with the World Editor of Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, and was updated upon the release of The Frozen Throne.
[edit] Gameplay
Night of the Dead Aftermath incorporates the usage of ammunition and magazines. It also includes an fps mode. Players rank up by gaining experience and saving the character via a save code that can be loaded at the beginning of a game. As the player progresses through the rank, new marine classes are unlocked.
Unlike most Warcraft III custom games, players do not share vision with each other. Players rely on minimap pings, audio and text communication in order to organize and carry out tactics. Throughout the game, players find themselves using basic military tactics in order to maneuver through thick forests and heavily occupied areas.
[edit] Classes
There are a total of twelve player selectable classes : Rifleman, Navy Corpsman, Flamethrower, Machine Gunner (Pfc.), Combat Engineer (Pfc.), Designated Marksman (Pfc.), Predator MQ-3 (Cpl.), Force Recon (Sgt.), Infantry Unit Leader (SSgt.), Forward Observer (GySgt.), Assaultman (2lt.), Delta Operator (Capt.). These classes become gradually available to players as they progress in ranks, allowing them to build solid fundamentals before using more specialized Military Occupational Specialties. Every Marine is first and foremost a Rifleman. Throughout the course of the game, players are also granted the use of friendly Non-player character Marines.
[edit] Chapters
NOTD Aftermath is seperated into 3 Chapters, which contain a series of objectives and themes. Some chapters have alternate scenarios that add replayability and variation to the game. Each Chapter lasts an average of twenty-five minutes and a complete game generally lasts one hour and twenty minutes. The -sm mode can cut game length to fifty-five minutes.
[edit] Objectives
The primary objective in the game is survival. Some waves will have optional quests that benefit your squad upon completion. Survival depends greatly on teamwork and personal skills alike. The difficulty of the game scales with various factors such as player rank, total players alive, total starting players, marine classes, hits taken thus far, kill efficiency, combat responsiveness, and ailments taken. Completion of objectives grant all players in the game Experience Points. Some objectives are open ended, which others require specific steps in order to complete successfully.

The Marines assigned to patrol the outlying portions of the state of Massachusetts are equipped with M9 exoskeletons, which serve to augment the movement and reflexes of Marines, provide improved body armor, and act as a self-contained environment as part of Nuclear, Biological and Chemical(NBC) protection. The M9 system is operated by a semi-intelligent onboard computer known as Advanced Lifeform Interface for Combat Environments(ALICE), allowing the system to anticipate and act in response to the Marine's thought and actions. The M9 system was originally developed by the Marine Corps Warfighting Laboratory as part of the next generation armor for ground forces engaged in street-fighting with guerillas in the Middle East, as well as potential conflict with China.
Echo Company found itself in the center of a large population of zombies that escaped Boston. With forces spread out, the unit had to defend the perimeter with the few Marines that it had as an increasing number of undead begin swarming the sector. Echo Company radioed the command element, and C-130s began immediate airdrops into the sector. The unit began a hasty supply retrieval and evacuated the town's cilivians. Thinking their job was done and ready for exfiltration, the unit's command element instead ordered the unit to remain in the sector and wait for a reactionary force.
Residence 41 was revealed to be an underground missile silo built during the Cold War era. Should the facility fall, a catastrophic nuclear explosion could be triggered and wipe out the entire Eastern seaboard. Fighting tirelessly throughout the course of the night, a reactionary force, Fox Company, eventually arrived just before dawn. It was not the tide turner it was expected to be as dozens of Class A hostiles started to emerge. Situation Reports(SITREPs) from nearby sectors reported the presence of a creature of enormous strength, Prometheus. Ultimately, Echo Company was able to defeat it with the help of Combat Engineers who hastily constructed an Electro Magnetic Sphere using the missile silo's power source.
The ending sequence of the game leaves ambigious clues about the extent to which the situation was contained. It is speculated that the viral outbreak would not be contained indefinitely and at the time of the events in NOTD Aftermath, most of the Eastern seaboard has been evacuated and the nation's administration relocated to Alaska.
[edit] Game Types
Normal - A three Chapter team survival that is the default mode of NOTD Aftermath. Ten players make up two five man fire teams that work together to deal with the outbreak in Sector E, overcoming obstacles and fulfilling mission objectives.
Boot Camp - Boot Camp is a toned down version of regular survival. The mode is used for training groups of new players and learning new classes. Players do not receive combat experience, mission experience and medal points while playing Boot Camp mode. Hero marines also granted 15 additional armor.
Deathmatch - Deathmatch is a PvP mode where each fire team fights for the highest score over a period of fifteen minutes. Deathmatch participation improves the Marine's combat readiness in Survival games.
